You can probably guess my answer: any time is a good time. And no, that's not just because I sell Strategic Website Reviews (though, sure, I do, and I'm not shy about it).
I had a client last year, smart, capable, brilliant at what she does, whose website was still advertising a workshop she'd stopped running two years earlier. Someone emailed asking to book it. She had to write back and explain it didn't exist anymore. Awkward for her, annoying for them, and a totally avoidable little mess.
That's the thing about websites. They just sit there quietly doing their job, until one day they're not quite doing their job anymore, and nobody noticed the moment it happened.
"That could be interesting..."
If you've had the thought, "huh, it might be good to have someone else look over my site," that's a good time to book a review. It's sone of the most common reasons people come to me. Not because anything's on fire. Just curiosity, and a sense that a second pair of eyes might catch something.
"I built it myself and nobody's ever checked it"
If that's you, that's also a good time. And I want to be really clear: it's not because you've done anything wrong. It's because every single one of us (me included) has blind spots when it comes to our own work. You've stared at your homepage so many times you can't see it fresh anymore. That's not a flaw, that's just how our brains work.
We take our websites for granted (yes, me too)
Your site's there, it does its job, mostly, and it's sitting somewhere near the bottom of your never ending to do list because there are fires closer to hand. I get it. Truly.
But I also want your website sending the right message to the people landing on it. It can't do that if it's out of date, and "out of date" creeps up quietly. Ask yourself honestly: when's the last time you looked at your site the way a visitor would, landing on it for the first time?
You don't need to do this monthly, or even quarterly. But as your business evolves, your website needs to keep pace. An old offer still sitting on your homepage isn't just a small oversight. It's friction for the person who wanted it, and extra admin for you cleaning up the confusion.<
Has your business changed direction?
The faster your business (or your market) is moving, the more often your website needs a look. A few honest questions:
- Are your current services actually on there?
- Is your pricing up to date?
- Has your sense of who you serve sharpened since you wrote that copy, and does the messaging reflect it?
Sometimes it's not even wrong, exactly. It's just... behind you.
Something feels off
Sometimes there's no single broken link to point to, just a nagging sense that enquiries have slowed, or people seem a little confused about what you actually do. Maybe that homepage isn't landing the way it used to. If you've had that quiet, itchy feeling, trust it. It's usually right.
You don't need to know a scrap of code to know something's not working
If you've ever felt talked down to by a developer, or decided tech "just isn't your thing" so you'd rather not ask, I want you to know this is a zero judgement zone. You don't need technical knowledge to notice your site isn't quite hitting the mark anymore. That instinct is enough. A strategic website review isn't about tech at all. It's about whether your site is actually working for your business and your ideal client. You bring the "something feels off." I bring the strategy to figure out why, and what to do about it.
Let's take a fresh look together
If any of this sounds familiar, that nagging feeling is worth listening to. My strategic website review is designed exactly for this: 45 minutes, one recorded Zoom call, zero judgement, and a genuinely fresh set of (very experienced, 18 years of WordPress under my belt) eyes on your site.
